Day of Silence

Today of is the day of silence at my school. The people who are in the "Gay-Strait Allience Club" and other supporters wear a shirt that says "Day of silence" and there are some stickers too. The people who wear the shirts and stickers do not talk for the whole day. Some people are very strict and don't talk at all and others don't really care. If you are not aware for what the day of silence is, it is a day people don't talk to stand up for gay, bisexuals, or transexuals. I do think it is important that everyone feels comfortable in our school. Everyone has the right to equal opportunites and should get to express themself freely. I know a lot of people are against the idea of excepting gays and lesbians because of their religion. I also don't believe it is "right" to be gay because of what God says but I don't think we have the right as humans to judge others. I think it is our job to love everyone. Everyone makes bad decisions (I am not saying being gay is a bad decision). Noone can blame others though because we are not in their shoes. I think the day of silence is great because even if not everyone is doing it, it makes others feel like they are in a suportive enviorment. This does not just have to be for gays. I encourage all of you, young or old, male or female, popular or dorky, to help someone else. Don't judge people because of what they look like, how they talk, or who they like or hang out with. Get to know someone and try as hard as you can to put yourself in their shoes. If someone is being bullied take a stand for them. Show that you care about others, even if they are not your friends. If you see someone else that is unhappy, show them that you care and I bet carma will come around and someone else will do the same for you.
